Free Functional Skills English Level 1 Course in Saltburn-By-The-Sea. Classes run at Redcar & Cleveland Adult Learning at Temperance Square, Loftus, part-time during the day.

The course runs over 20 weeks. You'll build your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Topics include understanding texts, writing clearly for different purposes, and communicating confidently in everyday situations. Before you start, you'll complete a short assessment so the centre can place you at the right level.

You'll finish with a City and Guilds Functional Skills Qualification in English at Level 1.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements, but we ask all learners to complete an initial and diagnostic assessment before the course starts so we can enrol you on the right level.

  • You'll use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar in your writing.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions with a tutor. The course uses a mix of reading tasks, writing exercises, and group discussion. Assessment is through a written exam and a speaking and listening task. Both are set and marked by City and Guilds.
