What time do job centres open and close?

Most jobcentres open at 9am and close at 5pm, Monday to Friday. On Wednesdays most open at 10am. Hours can differ by office, so check the office page before you travel.

Is the job centre open on Saturday or Sunday?

No. Jobcentres close on Saturdays and Sundays. If you cannot get to an appointment on a weekday, message your work coach through your Universal Credit account as soon as you can.

What is the job centre phone number?

For a Universal Credit claim, call the Universal Credit helpline on 0800 328 5644, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. For other Jobcentre Plus appointments, call 0800 169 0190, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. If you cannot hear or speak on the phone, use Relay UK: dial 18001, then the number. The Welsh language lines are 0800 328 1744 for Universal Credit and 0800 169 0207 for Jobcentre Plus. Offices in Northern Ireland use their own numbers, shown on each office page.

How do I change or cancel a jobcentre appointment?

Tell your work coach as soon as you can. The quickest way is a message in your Universal Credit account. You can also call the number for your claim. Your work coach arranges your appointments and they appear in your online journal, so there is no separate online booking. Let them know before the appointment time so your claim is not affected.

Where do I log in to my Universal Credit account?

You sign in on GOV.UK. Our Universal Credit login guide covers what to do if you cannot get into your account. It also shows how to use your journal to message your work coach.

Can the job centre help me find a job or training?

Yes. Your work coach can help with your job search, your applications and training that fits the work you want. Ask what support is available for costs such as travel to an interview. On this site you can search live jobs near any office and browse free courses near it. The eligibility checker shows which funded courses you could take.

Can employers advertise jobs through the job centre?

Yes. Employers in England, Scotland and Wales can advertise vacancies on the GOV.UK Find a job service. You can also post a job on JobYay for free, and it shows in the jobs listed near each office on this site.
