About this course

Free Entry Level 3 Functional Skills English Course in Saltburn-By-The-Sea. Classes run at Redcar & Cleveland Adult Learning at Temperance Square, Loftus.

The course runs part-time during the day over 20 weeks. You'll develop your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Topics include understanding texts, writing clearly for different purposes, and communicating in everyday situations. There are no entry requirements. You'll complete an initial assessment before you start, so you join at the right level.

You'll finish with a City and Guilds Functional Skills Qualification in English at Entry Level 3.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements, but we ask all learners to complete an initial and diagnostic assessment before the course starts so we can enrol you on the right level.

  • You'll read and understand a range of everyday texts.
  • You'll write clearly for different purposes and audiences.
  • You'll spell, punctuate, and use grammar accurately at Entry Level 3.
  • You'll listen and respond in spoken conversations and discussions.
  • You'll communicate information and ideas clearly in speech.
  • You'll identify the main points and purpose of written materials.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions with a tutor. The course uses a mix of group activities, discussion, and written tasks. Assessment is through a set task and a reading and writing test, both set by City and Guilds. Your tutor will support you throughout and help you prepare for the assessments.

The centre will provide most materials. Redcar & Cleveland Adult Learning at Temperance Square, Loftus will confirm anything else you need before you start.
