Free Entry Level 1 Functional Skills Maths Course in Saltburn-By-The-Sea. Classes run at Redcar & Cleveland Adult Learning at Temperance Square, Loftus, part-time during the day.

The course runs over 20 weeks and covers practical maths skills you use in everyday life. You'll work with numbers, measurements, and simple calculations. Topics build gradually, so you can learn at a manageable pace. There are no entry requirements. You'll complete a short assessment before you start so you join at the right level.

You'll finish with a Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Entry Level 1.

If you would like to develop your maths skills for further learning or employment, gain a nationally recognised qualification (up to Level 2), or wish to develop your confidence using maths in everyday situations, this is the right course for you!

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements, but we ask all learners to complete a short initial and diagnostic assessment before the course starts so we can enrol you on the right level.

What you will learn

  • You'll recognise and use whole numbers in everyday contexts.
  • You'll add and subtract simple numbers with confidence.
  • You'll work with basic measurements, including length, weight, and time.
  • You'll handle money and work out simple totals and change.
  • You'll read and understand straightforward number information, such as timetables and prices.
  • You'll begin to solve simple maths problems in real situations.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom with a tutor and a small group. Sessions are part-time and run during the day. Learning is practical and activity-based, using everyday examples. You'll be assessed through tasks and activities that show what you can do. There is no written exam at Entry Level 1.

The centre will provide most materials. Redcar & Cleveland Adult Learning at Temperance Square, Loftus will confirm anything else you need before you start.
