About this course

Free Entry Level 2 Functional Skills English in Pickering. Classes run at Atmosphere Centre for Young People on evenings, so you can fit study around your week. The course runs for 18 weeks part-time, covering reading, writing, speaking, and listening at Entry Level 2. This is a free functional skills english course for adults aged 19 and over who do not already hold an Entry Level 2 English qualification or higher. Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand short, straightforward texts on familiar topics.
  • You'll write simple sentences using basic punctuation and spelling.
  • You'll fill in forms and write short messages clearly.
  • You'll listen to and follow straightforward spoken information.
  • You'll take part in simple conversations and express your views clearly.
  • You'll identify the main points in everyday texts such as notices, signs, and instructions.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Atmosphere Centre for Young People during evening sessions. Assessment is through a formal written exam set by City and Guilds, covering reading and writing. Speaking and listening is assessed separately, usually through a short observed task. Your tutor will use class activities and practice tasks to prepare you throughout the course.
