About this course

Free Entry Level 1 English Course in Pickering. Evening english classes run at Atmosphere Centre for Young People, so you can fit study around your week. You'll work on reading, writing, speaking, and listening at Entry Level 1. The course runs for 55 hours part-time. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm this is the right level for you. Note: you must not already hold an Entry Level 1 or higher English qualification to be eligible.

Who this course is for

This course is for people who want to improve their English skills gain a qualification in English without having to take an exam.You must not have a current Entry 1 level or higher qualification.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment

  • You'll write basic words, phrases, and sentences
  • You'll listen and respond in simple conversations
  • You'll speak clearly enough to be understood in familiar situations
  • You'll use punctuation and spelling at Entry Level 1

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Atmosphere Centre for Young People during evening sessions. The course is assessed without a formal exam. Assessment is based on portfolio evidence and tasks completed during the course, in line with the City and Guilds Certificate in English Skills specification.
