About this course

Free Entry Level 2 Functional Skills English in Pickering. Classes run at Atmosphere Centre for Young People, part-time during the day, so you can fit study around other commitments. Over 18 weeks, you'll build your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills at Entry Level 2. This is a free functional skills english course open to adults who don't yet hold an Entry Level 2 or higher English qualification. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm the level is right for you.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand short texts on familiar topics.
  • You'll write simple sentences using basic punctuation and spelling.
  • You'll communicate clearly in everyday spoken conversations.
  • You'll listen and respond to straightforward information and instructions.
  • You'll identify the main points in simple written and spoken material.
  • You'll complete basic forms and written tasks relevant to daily life.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Atmosphere Centre for Young People. Teaching covers reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Assessment is through tasks and activities set by City and Guilds. You'll be assessed on your ability to read and understand texts, produce written work, and take part in spoken communication. Your tutor will track your progress throughout the course.
