About this course

Level 3 Assessor Course. Study online, at your own pace, from anywhere in the UK. You study through online learning with tutor support, so you can fit the course around work and other commitments. The course typically takes three to six months to complete. You'll learn how to plan and carry out assessments using a range of methods, covering both workplace competence and vocational skills and knowledge. You need to be working in an assessing role, and you'll need basic competency in English and maths.

Who this course is for

This qualification is part of the training, assessment and quality assurance (TAQA) suite of courses. It is ideal if you are a practitioner who uses a wide range of assessment methods based upon sound assessment principles.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but a basic competency in English and maths will be necessary and it is expected that all assessors and quality assurance individuals have occupational competence in the areas that they are assessing in.

You will also need to be working in an accredited, or non-accredited learning role.

What you will learn

  • You'll learn the principles and practices of assessment and how to apply them.
  • You'll plan and carry out assessments of occupational competence in the workplace.
  • You'll assess vocational skills, knowledge, and understanding in training environments.
  • You'll use a range of assessment methods, including observation and questioning.
  • You'll give feedback to learners on their performance and progress.
  • You'll maintain accurate assessment records in line with quality requirements.

How you will learn

You study online with tutor support throughout. Tutors provide regular progress reviews and are available to answer questions. Before you start, you'll have a pre-course discussion with a tutor to confirm the right pathway for you. Assessment is through portfolio evidence and observation of your assessing practice in your workplace role.

What you will need to bring

The College of Animal Welfare will confirm anything you need before you start. You will need access to a workplace or learning environment where you can carry out and evidence assessments as part of the course.
