About this course

Level 4 IQA Course. Study online, at your own pace, from anywhere in the UK or overseas. This level 4 iqa qualification is designed for people who carry out internal quality assurance within their organisation, including sample planning, monitoring assessors, and advising on assessment practice. You'll need to be working in a learning or assessment role to complete the practitioner pathway. The course typically takes three to six months. City and Guilds City and Guilds registration and exam fees of £73 apply.

Who this course is for

This qualification is part of the training, assessment and quality assurance (TAQA) suite of courses. It is ideal if you conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process from within your organisation by sample planning, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessors.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but a basic competency in English and maths will be necessary and it is expected that all assessors and quality assurance individuals have occupational competence in the areas that they are assessing in.

You will also need to be working in an accredited, or non-accredited learning role.

What you will learn

  • You'll understand the principles and practices of internal quality assurance in assessment.
  • You'll plan and carry out sampling of assessors' decisions and practice.
  • You'll monitor and evaluate assessment practice within your organisation.
  • You'll provide feedback and support to assessors to improve their practice.
  • You'll maintain accurate records of internal quality assurance activity.
  • You'll understand how to manage risks to the quality of assessment.

How you will learn

You'll study online with tutor support throughout. Learning is self-paced, so you can fit it around your work and other commitments. After you apply, you'll have a pre-course discussion with a tutor to confirm the right pathway for you. Assessment is through written assignments and portfolio evidence drawn from your workplace practice.

What you will need to bring

You'll need access to a workplace where you carry out or oversee internal quality assurance activity, as the course requires evidence from real practice. The College of Animal Welfare will confirm anything else you need before you start.
