Level 4 HNC in Mechatronics Engineering. Study online at your own pace, fitting your learning around work and other commitments. This Pearson Edexcel qualification is equivalent to the first year of an engineering degree and takes around one year to complete. You'll need a relevant Level 3 engineering qualification or relevant work experience to enrol. If your maths hasn't been studied to Level 3, a bridging maths course is strongly recommended before you start. The minimum age for this course is 18.
Who this course is for
BTEC Higher Nationals are internationally recognised higher education qualifications at levels 4 and 5 that are equivalent to the first and second years of a university degree. They provide learners with an affordable, vocational route to completing a degree, upskilling or employment. These courses are fully accredited by Pearson. This course is the ideal choice for you if:You want an affordable, fast-track, and guaranteed route towards the third and final year of an Engineering degree-related BA/BSc degree You are employed, do not have the time to go to college or university, and, therefore, need a more flexible route up the ladder. You currently work in an Engineering sector and want to upskill and progress in your role.
Entry requirements
A pre-requisite to gaining entry onto the HNC is to have a relevant level 3 qualification in engineering OR relevant work experience in the engineering. For those who have not studied up to level 3 in Maths, it is strongly recommended that you consider adding on the Bridging Maths course, learners may be required to complete a bridging course(s) before gaining entry onto an HNC/D. Age requirement: the minimum age requirement for this course is 18.
What you will learn
You'll study the principles of mechanical and electronic systems used in mechatronics engineering.
You'll develop knowledge of programmable logic controllers and automation technologies.
You'll explore engineering mathematics and its application to real technical problems.
You'll examine electrical and electronic principles relevant to integrated engineering systems.
You'll build understanding of engineering project management and professional practice.
You'll analyse how mechanical, electrical, and computing systems work together in modern engineering.
How you will learn
This is an online course you study at your own pace. Assessment is through assignments and project-based work rather than exams. You'll submit work digitally and receive feedback from tutors. The course is structured into units, each assessed separately, so you can progress through the qualification while managing your own schedule.
What you will need to bring
The centre will provide most materials. Unicourse will confirm anything else you need before you start.
Where next
Jobs you could do
Mechatronics engineer: design and maintain automated systems
Automation technician: programme and service industrial control systems
Robotics engineer: develop robotic systems for manufacturing or logistics
Electrical and electronic engineer: work across integrated engineering projects
Control systems engineer: oversee automated process control in industry
Manufacturing engineer: improve production processes using engineering knowledge
Maintenance engineer: keep complex mechanical and electronic systems running
What you could study next
HND in Mechatronics (Level 5): the natural next step, equivalent to the second year of a degree, and often taken as part of the same programme.
BEng or BEng (Hons) in Mechatronics or Engineering: completing a degree top-up at a university, typically one further year after the HND.
Chartered Engineer status: a longer-term goal through a professional engineering institution once you have degree-level qualifications and relevant experience.
