BTEC Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering for England. Study online at your own pace, completing the course in around one year.

You'll need a relevant Level 3 engineering qualification or relevant work experience to enrol. If your maths isn't at Level 3, a bridging maths course is strongly recommended before you start. The minimum age is 18 years old.

This Pearson Edexcel Level 4 BTEC mechanical engineering qualification covers engineering principles, materials, thermodynamics, and design. It sits at the same level as the first year of a university degree. You'll finish with a BTEC Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering.

Who this course is for

BTEC Higher Nationals are internationally recognised higher education qualifications at levels 4 and 5 that are equivalent to the first and second years of a university degree. They provide learners with an affordable, vocational route to completing a degree, upskilling or employment. These courses are fully accredited by Pearson. This course is the ideal choice for you if:You want an affordable, fast-track, and guaranteed route towards the third and final year of an Engineering degree-related BA/BSc degree You are employed, do not have the time to go to college or university, and, therefore, need a more flexible route up the ladder. • You'll explore thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
  • You'll develop skills in engineering design and drawing.
  • You'll analyse mechanical systems and components.
  • You'll use mathematical and analytical methods relevant to engineering.
  • You'll understand quality, health, and safety in engineering contexts.

How you will learn

You'll study online through a mix of written assignments, projects, and coursework. Assessment is mainly assignment-based rather than exam-based. Units are assessed as you complete them, so you build your qualification progressively. You work at your own pace, which suits people fitting study around work or other commitments.
