About this course

Level 2 Trowel Occupations (Construction) Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You train on the job, building skills in your current role while earning. This trowel occupations (construction) qualification covers the practical and technical skills bricklayers need on site. The course typically takes 3 months. Earning a level 2 trowel occupations (construction) certificate shows employers you can work to industry standards. You must be aged 16 or over to enrol.

This qualification will provide you with occupational competence and knowledge of Trowel Occupations and/or 'licence to practice' as well as evidence to apply for your Blue - Skilled Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

Entry requirements

Learners must be aged 16 and over.

  • You'll work with mortar mixes and understand material properties for different applications.
  • You'll follow health and safety requirements on a construction site.
  • You'll read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • You'll set out and build to accurate levels, lines, and plumb.
  • You'll handle and store construction materials correctly.
  • You'll work within industry standards for quality and finish.

How you will learn

Training takes place at your workplace, with flexible patterns of on-site practice and classroom learning. Assessment is competence-based. You'll be observed carrying out trowel occupations tasks in your job role, and you'll build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your skills and knowledge. A trained assessor will visit you at work to carry out observations and review your evidence.

The centre will provide most materials. Canary Wharf Learning Centre will confirm anything else you need before you start.
