About this course

Free Functional Skills Maths Level 2 in Selby. Classes run at Selby Adult Learning and Skills Service on a part-time daytime timetable, making it easier to fit around caring responsibilities or other commitments. This level 2 functional skills maths course covers the maths skills employers and colleges ask for, from working with numbers and fractions to interpreting data and solving practical problems. This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. No previous experience is required. Basic IT skills are essential. We will ask you to enrol on a BKSB assessment session. This will allow us to allocate the most suitable course for your individual level. We will

  • You'll work with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and percentages in everyday contexts.
  • You'll use ratios and proportion to solve practical problems.
  • You'll interpret and construct charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll calculate with measures including money, time, length, weight, and volume.
  • You'll apply statistical methods to analyse and compare data.
  • You'll use formulae and simple algebra to solve problems.
  • You'll check your working and present solutions clearly.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Selby Adult Learning and Skills Service. Assessment is by a written external exam set and marked by City and Guilds. There is no coursework portfolio. You'll sit the exam when your tutor confirms you're ready, and you must pass to receive the qualification.
