Free Entry Level 1 English Course in Selby. Classes run at Selby Adult Learning and Skills Service, part-time during the day. The course runs over 55 hours, so you can fit study around other commitments. You'll build your reading, writing, and communication skills at your own pace, without sitting a formal exam. To join, you must not already hold an Entry Level 1 or higher English qualification. You'll have an initial assessment at enrolment to confirm the course is the right level for you.
Who this course is for
This course is for people who want to improve their English skills gain a qualification in English without having to take an exam.You must not have a current Entry 1 level or higher qualification.
Entry requirements
To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment
What you will learn
You'll read and understand short, simple texts.
You'll write simple sentences using basic punctuation and spelling.
You'll communicate clearly in everyday situations.
You'll listen and respond to simple spoken instructions and questions.
You'll use English in practical, real-world contexts.
How you will learn
You'll learn in a classroom with a tutor. This course is assessed through portfolio-based work rather than a formal exam. You'll complete tasks and activities during your sessions, and your work will be collected as evidence toward your qualification. No exam is required to achieve the Certificate.
