Free Entry Level 1 English Course in Harrogate. Evening english classes run at Harrogate Civic Centre, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. This course is for people who want to improve their English skills gain a qualification in English without having to take an exam.You must not have a current Entry 1 level or higher qualification.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment

  • You'll write simple sentences using basic punctuation and spelling.
  • You'll listen and respond to straightforward spoken information.
  • You'll speak clearly to communicate basic needs and information.
  • You'll recognise and use everyday vocabulary in written and spoken English.

How you will learn

Classes are delivered face-to-face at Harrogate Civic Centre on weekday evenings. Assessment is portfolio-based rather than exam-based, so you build evidence of your skills through classwork and tasks completed during the course. Your tutor will guide you through each activity and track your progress toward the City and Guilds Certificate.
