Free Functional Skills English Level 1 in Pickering. Classes run at Atmosphere Centre for Young People, part-time during the day, over 18 weeks. The course covers reading, writing, speaking, and listening at Level 1. When employers ask for GCSE English or equivalent, a Level 1 Functional Skills English Certificate is a recognised step toward that standard. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm this is the right level for you.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact
What you will learn
You'll read and understand different types of texts, including everyday documents and longer passages.
You'll write clearly for different purposes, such as letters, emails, and short reports.
You'll use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar in your writing.
You'll listen and respond to spoken information in a range of everyday situations.
You'll speak clearly and communicate ideas in discussions and presentations.
You'll identify the main points and purpose in written and spoken material.
How you will learn
You'll learn in a classroom at Atmosphere Centre for Young People, with a mix of reading, writing, and speaking activities. Assessment is through a written exam and a speaking and listening assessment. Both are set and marked externally by City and Guilds. Your tutor will prepare you for both components during the course.
