About this course

Free Entry Level English Skills - Speaking and Listening Course in Birmingham. Classes run at Queen Alexandra College, full-time during the day. This course is designed for students with disabilities and/or learning difficulties, and runs as part of a wider study programme that includes therapies and specialist support. You'll develop your spoken English and listening skills over 12 months. Entry is for high needs students with an Education, Health and Care Plan, either through a Local Authority referral or by applying directly to the college for an initial assessment.

High Needs Students with EHC Plan and referral through Local Authority OR apply directly to College to apply for initial assessment. This will form part of a wider study programme which will include therapies and specialist support for LLDD

What you will learn

  • You'll practise listening carefully and responding to what others say.
  • You'll build skills for taking part in conversations and discussions.
  • You'll learn how to express your ideas and opinions out loud.
  • You'll practise following spoken instructions and asking questions.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Queen Alexandra College. The course includes speaking and listening activities, group discussions, and one-to-one practice. Assessment is through observed tasks and activities that show your speaking and listening skills in action. Your learning is supported by specialist staff and therapies as part of your wider study programme.
