Free Entry Level English Skills - Speaking and Listening Course in Birmingham. Classes run full-time during the day at Queen Alexandra College. You'll develop your spoken English and listening skills over 12 months, working toward the City and Guilds entry level english skills - speaking and listening qualification. Entry is through an Education, Health and Care Plan and Local Authority referral, or by applying directly to the college for an initial assessment.

Entry requirements

High Needs Students with EHC Plan and referral through Local Authority OR apply directly to College to apply for initial assessment. This will form part of a wider study programme which will include therapies and specialist support for LLDD

What you will learn

  • You'll develop your ability to speak clearly in everyday conversations.
  • You'll practise listening carefully and responding to what others say.
  • You'll build confidence taking turns in discussions and group activities.
  • You'll learn to follow spoken instructions and ask questions to check understanding.
  • You'll practise using appropriate language in different situations.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based activities, including group discussions, paired speaking tasks, and listening exercises. Assessment is through observed speaking and listening tasks, where you demonstrate your skills directly. Your progress is assessed by your tutor as part of your day-to-day learning. Specialist support and therapies are built into the wider study programme alongside your english skills - speaking and listening classes.
