About this course

Free Entry Level 3 Functional Skills Maths in Pickering. Evening classes run at Atmosphere Centre for Young People, so you can fit study around your week. This is a free functional skills maths course for adults who want to strengthen their maths skills and don't yet hold an Entry Level 3 or higher qualification. Classes run part-time over 18 weeks. Functional Skills Maths Level 2 is the recognised GCSE maths equivalent, and this Entry Level 3 course builds the foundation for that. You'll sit an initial assessment so the centre can plan your learning at the right level.

This course is for people who want to improve their Maths skills and who currently, do not hold a current Entry Level 3 or higher qualification

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including reading, writing, and ordering them.
  • You'll add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers.
  • You'll understand and use simple fractions and percentages.
  • You'll read and interpret straightforward charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll solve practical maths problems using money, time, and measurement.
  • You'll use basic shape and space skills, including perimeter and area.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Atmosphere Centre for Young People during evening sessions. Teaching is practical and task-based, covering real maths problems you might meet at work or in daily life. Assessment is through a written test set and marked by City and Guilds. You'll need to pass both a skills check and the formal test to earn your certificate.
