About this course

Free Entry Level 3 Functional Skills English in Pickering. Evening classes run at Atmosphere Centre for Young People, so you can fit study around your week. The course runs over 18 weeks part-time. You'll build reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills at Entry Level 3. This is a free functional skills english course for adults who don't yet hold an Entry Level 3 English qualification or higher. Completing it gives you a recognised step toward Level 1 and, eventually, a GCSE English equivalent.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll write clearly using basic sentences, spelling, and punctuation.
  • You'll listen and respond in straightforward conversations.
  • You'll speak clearly enough to be understood in everyday situations.
  • You'll identify the main points in written and spoken information.
  • You'll complete simple forms and written tasks accurately.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Atmosphere Centre for Young People during evening sessions. Assessment is through tasks that test reading, writing, speaking, listening, and communication. You'll be assessed on each skill area, and you'll need to pass each one to earn the qualification. You'll have an initial assessment before you start so the centre can confirm Entry Level 3 Functional Skills English is the right level for you.
