About this course

Level 2 Steelfixing Occupations (Construction) Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You train on the job, building skills directly in your steelfixing role while you earn. The course runs over 3 months and combines work-based learning with flexible classroom support to fit around your job. You'll develop the practical and technical skills needed for steelfixing work on construction sites, working toward a NOCN Level 2 steelfixing occupations (construction) qualification. You must be aged 16 or over to enrol.

This qualification will provide you with occupational competence and knowledge of Steelfixing Occupations and/or ‘licence to practice’ as well as evidence to apply for your Blue – Skilled Construction Skills Certification Schemes (CSCS) card.

What you will learn

  • You'll learn how to fix and position steel reinforcement bars to specification.
  • You'll understand how to read and interpret construction drawings and plans.
  • You'll apply safe working practices relevant to steelfixing on construction sites.
  • You'll use hand tools and equipment correctly for steelfixing tasks.
  • You'll work to tolerances and quality standards required on site.
  • You'll handle and store steel reinforcement materials safely and correctly.

How you will learn

Assessment is work-based. You'll be observed carrying out steelfixing tasks in your workplace, with evidence gathered from your day-to-day work. This is combined with flexible classroom sessions to support the underpinning knowledge elements of the qualification. A mentor supports you throughout, and learning is tailored to your job role and your organisation's needs.

The centre will provide most materials. Canary Wharf Learning Centre will confirm anything else you need before you start.
