About this course

Level 2 Fabrication And Welding Course. Work-based training at your workplace. Funding may be available for eligible learners. Fees may apply if you do not qualify for support.

This fabrication and welding qualification takes around 12 months to complete. You train in your current engineering role, building skills across welding, fabrication, and related engineering operations. Units cover practical techniques, safe working practices, and the underpinning knowledge your employer needs you to have. There are no entry qualifications required, though you must be working in a role that supports the qualification.

You'll finish with an NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations.

Who this course is for

Candidates wishing to demonstrate broad understanding of various engineering practices and to provide an entry way into several different engineering roles. The qualification is applicable to a wide variety of engineering occupations such as machining, welding, maintenance and CAD, dependent on the pathway chosen.

Entry requirements

The candidate must be in a role within the workplace that will support the qualification requirements and must have the potential to achieve the assessment criteria set out in the units.

There are no entry qualifications required by learners to undertake this qualification unless this is a legal requirement of the process or the environment

What you will learn

  • You'll develop welding techniques suited to your workplace and chosen pathway.
  • You'll learn fabrication methods including cutting, forming, and joining metal components.

  • You'll read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • You'll use hand tools, power tools, and machinery safely and accurately.
  • You'll demonstrate quality checking and inspection of finished work.

How you will learn

You learn on the job, in your workplace. Assessment is competence-based, meaning you are observed carrying out real tasks in your role. A assessor will visit your workplace to observe your practice and review evidence you gather over time. You may also complete written or verbal questions to show your underpinning knowledge. Your employer supports your learning throughout.
