About this course

Free Level 1 Retail Course. Work-based training at your workplace, completed over two weeks while you develop practical retail knowledge.

The course is for adults aged 19 or over who are unemployed or on a low income. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm the course is the right fit. Units cover what employers expect from retail staff, including customer service, stock handling, and working at the checkout. You'll also build an understanding of how retail businesses operate day to day.

You'll finish with a Highfield Certificate in Retail Knowledge.

Who this course is for

Our Level 1 course in Retail Knowledge is for individuals, 19+ and has been designed to be specific to those who are looking for work within the retail sector. The aim is to develop skills which are designed to support you in finding sustainable employment, perhaps as checkout operators, sales assistants or working in the stock room. The two-week Retail Knowledge course will not only provide you with the knowledge and understanding of what employers expect from retail employees, but it also gives an insight to the key areas required in any retail environment. This qualification will make you productive and valuable to an employer from day one. This qualification is assessed through completion of a portfolio of evidence, which will be internally assessed and internally quality assured by the centre. A portfolio of evidence gives centres flexibility in how individual assessment criteria are assessed. These qualifications are also tailored to bespoke cohorts which include: lone parents, 50+, male/female only and disability provision. This allows for individualised delivery specifically suited to these cohorts. We believe this sets Deere aside from mainstream provision of this nature.

How you will learn

Training takes place in your workplace over two weeks. You'll learn through on-the-job activity supported by your employer. Assessment is based on your knowledge and understanding of retail, tested through short written or online tasks. Your progress is tracked throughout the course.
