About this course

Free Functional Skills English Level 1 Course in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Classes run at High Pavement Learning Centre on Wednesday evenings, part-time over 22 weeks.

The course covers reading, writing, and speaking and listening. You'll start with an initial assessment so your tutor can confirm the right level for you. These are the three areas you'll be assessed on toward the end of the course. A Level 1 functional skills english qualification is a recognised GCSE English alternative accepted by many employers.

You'll finish with a City and Guilds Functional Skills Qualification in English at Level 1.

What you will learn

  • You'll write clearly for different purposes and audiences.
  • You'll develop your speaking and listening skills.
  • You'll plan and organise your written work.
  • You'll identify the main points and ideas in what you read.
  • You'll use grammar, punctuation, and spelling accurately at Level 1.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a small group of 5 to 15 students in a classroom setting. Your tutor will guide you through reading, writing, and speaking and listening activities each week. Toward the end of the course, you'll be assessed in all three areas. Assessment is through set tasks in each skill area. All resources are provided by your tutor.
