About this course

Free Functional Skills Qualification in English in Eastwood. Classes run at Eastwood Library on Thursday mornings, part-time over 22 weeks.

You'll work on reading, writing, and speaking and listening. An initial assessment at the start helps place you at the right level, from Entry Level 3 up to Level 2. The course covers the skills employers look for, making it a practical GCSE English alternative for adults returning to learning.

You'll finish with a City and Guilds Level 1 Functional Skills Qualification in English.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop your reading skills, including understanding different types of texts.
  • You'll improve your writing, covering grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • You'll build your speaking and listening skills for everyday and work situations.
  • You'll practise communicating clearly in a range of contexts.
  • You'll learn to identify the main points and purpose of written material.
  • You'll write for different audiences and purposes.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a small group of 5 to 15 students at Eastwood Library. Sessions are classroom based, running on Thursday mornings. Your tutor will supply all learning resources. Near the end of the course, you'll be assessed on reading, writing, and speaking and listening. Pass all three and you'll earn your qualification.

All resources are supplied by the tutor. You may want to bring your own notebook to write in.
