About this course

Free Functional Skills Qualification in English in Nottingham. Classes run at Beeston Library on Thursday afternoons, part-time over 22 weeks.

You'll start with an initial assessment so your tutor can confirm the right level for you. The course is for adults aged 19 or over. If English is your second language, an ESOL course may suit you better.

You'll finish with a City and Guilds Functional Skills Qualification in English, a recognised GCSE English alternative accepted by many employers and colleges.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop your reading skills, including understanding different types of text.
  • You'll practise writing clearly and accurately for different purposes.
  • You'll build your speaking and listening skills in everyday situations.
  • You'll learn to structure sentences and use punctuation correctly.
  • You'll work on spelling and vocabulary to communicate more effectively.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a small group of up to 18 people at Beeston Library. Classes run on Thursday afternoons. Your tutor will guide you through reading, writing, and speaking and listening activities. Near the end of the course, you'll be assessed on all three elements. Pass all three and you'll earn your qualification. All resources are provided by your tutor.
