Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including counting, ordering, and basic calculations.
  • You'll add, subtract, multiply, and divide using everyday contexts.
  • You'll handle money, including giving change and working out costs.
  • You'll read and interpret simple charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll measure length, weight, capacity, and time using standard units.
  • You'll solve straightforward maths problems using the skills covered on the course.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Malton Adult Learning and Skills Service during evening sessions. Assessment is through coursework and practical tasks rather than a formal exam. You'll build a portfolio of evidence showing what you can do. Your tutor will guide you through each topic in class, and you'll practise skills using real-life examples.
