About this course

Free Entry Level 3 Maths Course in Northallerton. Evening classes run at Skipton Adult Learning & Skills Service, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. The course runs for 10 weeks part-time and covers maths skills at Entry Level 3. There's no exam; you'll be assessed through coursework instead. You'll start with an initial assessment to confirm this is the right level for you. To be eligible, you must be 19 or over and must not already hold an Entry Level 3 or higher maths qualification.

This course is for people who want to improve their Maths skills and gain a qualification in Maths without having to take an exam.You must not have a current Entry 3 level or higher qualification.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • You'll read, write, and compare numbers up to 1,000.
  • You'll use fractions and recognise simple percentages in everyday contexts.
  • You'll handle money, calculate change, and work out costs.
  • You'll read and use simple charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll measure length, weight, capacity, and time using common units.
  • You'll solve straightforward maths problems using the skills above.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at evening sessions over 10 weeks. This course is assessed without an exam. Instead, you'll complete coursework and practical tasks that show what you can do. Your tutor will support you through each topic and track your progress as you go.
