Level 4 HNC Electrical Systems Engineering. Study online at your own pace, fitting learning around work or other commitments. You'll need a relevant Level 3 engineering qualification or relevant work experience to apply. The minimum age is 18. If your maths hasn't been studied to Level 3, a bridging course is strongly recommended before you start. The course takes around one year and covers electrical systems engineering at higher education level. It is equivalent to the first year of a university degree and gives you a route into the second or third year of a related engineering degree.
Who this course is for
BTEC Higher Nationals are internationally recognised higher education qualifications at levels 4 and 5 that are equivalent to the first and second years of a university degree. They provide learners with an affordable, vocational route to completing a degree, upskilling or employment. These courses are fully accredited by Pearson. This course is the ideal choice for you if:You want an affordable, fast-track, and guaranteed route towards the third and final year of an Engineering degree-related BA/BSc degree You are employed, do not have the time to go to college or university, and, therefore, need a more flexible route up the ladder. You currently work in an Engineering sector and want to upskill and progress in your role.
Entry requirements
A pre-requisite to gaining entry onto the HNC is to have a relevant level 3 qualification in engineering OR relevant work experience in the engineering. For those who have not studied up to level 3 in Maths, it is strongly recommended that you consider adding on the Bridging Maths course, learners may be required to complete a bridging course(s) before gaining entry onto an HNC/D. Age requirement: the minimum age requirement for this course is 18.
What you will learn
You'll study the principles of electrical systems and how they are designed and applied.
You'll develop knowledge of engineering mathematics and how it underpins electrical systems work.
You'll explore circuit theory, power systems, and control systems.
You'll build understanding of engineering project management and professional practice.
You'll analyse real engineering problems and apply technical solutions.
You'll develop the technical knowledge needed to progress to the final year of an engineering degree.
How you will learn
Learning is delivered online, so you study at times that suit you. Assessment on Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals is assignment-based. You complete written assignments and practical tasks that are marked against Pearson's criteria. There are no traditional written exams for most units. You submit work online and receive feedback from your assessor. Some units may include additional assessment tasks as set by Pearson.
What you will need to bring
The centre will provide most materials. Unicourse will confirm anything else you need before you start.
