Level 3 Assessing Competence in the Work Environment Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You study while continuing in your current role, applying your assessment practice directly with learners in your vocational area. The course takes around 10 months and covers the knowledge, skills, and practice needed to assess vocational qualifications in a work setting. To enrol, you'll need relevant vocational qualifications and practical experience in the area you want to assess, plus access to at least two learners currently working toward vocational qualifications. The City and Guilds Level 3 assessing competence in the work environment qualification replaces the previous A1 and A2 assessor awards.
Who this course is for
This suite of qualifications replaces the previous A1 and A2 vocational assessor awards. They reflect the assessment requirements of qualifications within Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and provide practitioners with recognition, through qualification, of excellence in assessment practice.
Entry requirements
There are no entry requirements for the Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment.
The remaining three qualifications require you to have vocational qualifications and relevant practical experience in the vocational area you wish to assess. You will also need access to at least two learners who are currently working towards vocational qualifications, or being assessed against in-house standards.
What you will learn
You'll plan and prepare assessment activities for learners in a work environment.
You'll assess learner competence using a range of methods, including observation and questioning.
You'll make and record assessment decisions against vocational standards.
You'll give constructive feedback to learners on their performance.
You'll review and evaluate your own assessment practice.
You'll understand the legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements that apply to assessment.
How you will learn
Assessment is work-based and practice-led. You'll be observed carrying out assessments with real learners in your workplace. You'll build a portfolio of evidence showing your assessment decisions, records, and reflections. You'll also answer questions to demonstrate your underpinning knowledge. You need access to at least two learners who are working toward vocational qualifications or being assessed against in-house standards.

The centre will provide most materials. Heart of Yorkshire Education Group will confirm anything else you need before you start.
