About this course

Level 2 Nail Technician Course in Barnsley. Classes run at The White Rose School of Beauty Barnsley, daytime in a salon setting. Funding options are available and will be discussed at interview, so fees may or may not apply depending on your circumstances. The course runs for 156 hours and builds the knowledge and practical skills needed to work as a junior nail technician in a commercial salon. Entry is via a previous Level 1 beauty therapy qualification and/or a skills test and interview. This is a VTCT Level 2 nail technician qualification.

Who this course is for

This qualification has been specifically designed for learners aged 16 or over, and will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare learners for employment as a junior nail technician. It is also for learners seeking to work in and develop their skills in a commercial setting and can only be delivered by colleges that have or have access to a salon and not a realistic working environment.

Entry requirements

Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in beauty therapy and/or a successful skills test and interview.

What you will learn

  • You'll learn how to prepare clients and workstations for nail treatments.
  • You'll develop skills in natural nail manicure and pedicure services.
  • You'll practise applying nail enhancements, including gel and acrylic systems.
  • You'll learn how to maintain and remove nail enhancements safely.
  • You'll understand nail anatomy, skin conditions, and contraindications.
  • You'll develop client consultation and aftercare advice skills.
  • You'll learn health, safety, and hygiene standards for a commercial nail environment.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical, hands-on sessions in a salon environment. Assessment combines observed practical work, where an assessor watches you carry out treatments, with written or oral questions to test your underpinning knowledge. You'll build a portfolio of evidence over the course. Because this is an NVQ Diploma, competence in real salon conditions is central to how you're assessed.
