About this course

Level 3 Hairdressing Course in Leicester. Classes run at Leicester College Freemen's Park Campus, full-time during the day. This level 3 hairdressing qualification builds on Level 2 skills and takes one year to complete. You'll need a Level 2 hairdressing qualification to join, plus GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above (or equivalent). The course covers advanced cutting, creative colouring, colour correction, and styling. You'll also complete at least 315 hours of work placement and a business and communication programme.

Who this course is for

Our Hairdressing Diploma level 3 course aims to provide you with a range of specialist practical skills and technical knowledge which will equip you to gain employment or further training within the hairdressing industry. This course has been built to develop your skills further after completing the level 2 course.

If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.

If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities. For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.

Entry requirements

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above is required. A level two qualification in hairdressing is essential to gain access on to the course. Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical, hands-on sessions in the classroom and salon environment at Leicester College Freemen's Park Campus. Employer involvement in both delivery and assessment is a required part of this qualification and is externally quality assured. You'll also complete an optional unit chosen at the start of the course, alongside your work placement hours.
