About this course

Level 2 Hairdressing Course in Leicester. Classes run at Leicester College Freemen's Park Campus, full-time during the day. The course runs for one year and covers the technical skills needed to work as a junior stylist in a salon. You'll study cutting, colouring, styling, perming, and scalp treatments, alongside health and safety and client communication. No previous hairdressing experience is required to enrol. This level 2 hairdressing qualification is awarded by City and Guilds.

Who this course is for

The qualification aims to provide you with a range of technical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to progress on to the level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing.

You don�t need any previous knowledge or experience to start this qualification and it will suit anyone who wants to learn all of the technical skills and knowledge needed to work as a junior stylist providing basic hairdressing services. In today�s market, cutting, colouring, and styling are key skills and this is evidenced in the increase of salon businesses opening up.

If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and Maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 / (C) or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.

Entry requirements

To enrol onto this course, you will need to have achieved GCSEs at grade 3 or above in English and Maths or Functional Skills level 1 in both English and Maths. Additionally, we will also require you to have evidence of 90% attendance and a positive reference from your last place of work or study. Excellent communication skills are also desirable.

How you will learn

You'll learn through a mix of classroom teaching and hands-on practical sessions at Leicester College Freemen's Park Campus. Theory covers the principles of hairdressing, health and safety, and client care. Practical work lets you apply techniques directly. Assessment combines theoretical elements with practical tasks. If you're aged 16 to 18, your study programme will also include English and Maths and a work experience placement.

The centre will provide most materials. Leicester College Freemen's Park Campus will confirm anything else you need before you start. Note that a material fee of £120 applies for this course.
