Level 3 Hairdressing Course in Derby. Classes run at Derby College, full-time during the day over 36 weeks. This hairdressing qualification builds on Level 2 skills with advanced techniques across cutting, colouring, and styling. Candidates with relevant industry experience are also considered. You'll develop the technical knowledge and practical ability needed to work at a professional level in the hairdressing industry. To apply, you'll need a Level 2 Hair qualification or sector experience, plus English or Maths at grade 4 or above.

Who this course is for

This VTCT qualification will provide you with advanced techniques needed to be successful in the hairdressing industry plus the skills and knowledge required for a successful career.  It builds your awareness of the range of jobs in the sector, enabling you to make informed decisions about your future direction.The course is designed for students who want to progress from Level 2. However, candidates with current industry experience will be considered. As part of your studies, you will be required to complete work experience to develop skills and behaviours that support your progression.Where required, the course will allow you a resit opportunity in either Maths or English, which will support your main programme of study, help your future progression and enhance your life skills.Your timetable may include one late evening per week and you are expected to build up a client base in order to undertake your assessments.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical salon-based sessions in the classroom, working on real clients and developing hands-on technique. Assessment combines practical observations, where an assessor watches you carry out services to industry standards, with written or online knowledge tests. You'll build a portfolio of evidence throughout the course to demonstrate your competence across all units.
