About this course

Free Level 2 Wood Occupations (Construction) Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You train on the job as a formworker, building your skills while you earn. An assessor visits your workplace to observe you doing your normal work activities. The course typically takes 9 months. To enrol, you must be 19 or over and already working as a formworker in the construction industry. The level 2 wood occupations (construction) qualification is assessed entirely through real workplace evidence, so nothing is simulated. Completing it puts you in a strong position to apply for a CSCS skilled worker card.

Who this course is for

This course is ideal for those looking to build on their carpentry skills. Created for those with some knowledge and basic skills working with woodworking, this qualification provides a gateway to a number of exciting opportunities for progression, including supervisory and management qualifications.

Entry requirements

Candidates must be over the age of 19, and already hold a position as a Formworker in the construction industry.

What you will learn

  • You'll demonstrate safe working practices and compliance with current construction legislation.
  • You'll carry out formwork and wood occupations tasks to industry standard in a live work environment.
  • You'll produce and interpret construction drawings and specifications relevant to your work.
  • You'll select and use appropriate tools, materials, and equipment for wood occupations tasks.
  • You'll apply knowledge of timber and wood-based products used in construction.
  • You'll show competence in planning and organising your own work activities on site.

How you will learn

All assessment takes place in your workplace. Your assessor observes you carrying out your normal work activities and confirms you meet the standard for each unit. Evidence is collected through observations, witness testimonies, professional discussions, site evidence, photographic evidence, and knowledge questions. Everything is managed through an e-portfolio system called Learning Assistant. Work activities cannot be simulated; all evidence must come from your actual job.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. The Skills Centre will confirm anything else you need before you start.
