About this course

Free Functional Skills English Level 2 Qualification. Study online. You can work through the course at your own pace, fitting study around your other commitments. Over 16 weeks, you cover speaking, listening, reading, and writing at Level 2. This level is the recognised equivalent when employers ask for GCSE English or equivalent. You'll take part in online classes covering all four skills, with community workshops and volunteering opportunities also available. Assessment includes an initial assessment to confirm the right level for you.

Who this course is for

We teach a range of ESOL courses in person in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and across West London. We also teach a number of class of all skills and levels online via zoom. We will support you to develop your speaking and listening, reading and writing. We have Functional Skills English classes online and face to face.

We have classes at all ESOL levels Entry 1 – Level 2. As part of your ESOL course you will take part in local community activities, workshops and volunteering. You will get to practice IT skills and improve your confidence through conversation clubs and workshops.

As well as grammar, speaking and listening and spelling and writing skills, our courses are all about helping you make a difference in life and work. From taking a more active role in community life, learning about your mental health and well-being, and supporting you into a new job, ELATT gives you a full experience to help you improve your English.

Entry requirements

Complete an Initial Assessment with ELATT or a recognised referral partner.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop your reading skills to understand a range of texts, including workplace documents and everyday materials.
  • You'll practise writing clearly and accurately for different purposes, including emails, letters, and forms.
  • You'll build your speaking and listening skills for work and everyday situations.
  • You'll learn to use grammar, punctuation, and spelling at Level 2 standard.
  • You'll take part in community workshops covering topics such as wellbeing, employment, and community life.
  • You'll have access to conversation clubs to practise spoken English in a supportive setting.

How you will learn

Classes run online via Zoom, covering speaking, listening, reading, and writing. You start with an initial assessment to confirm the right level and plan your learning. Throughout the course you take part in live online sessions. Assessment is either an internal RARPA assessment or an in-person external exam at a centre near you. External exams are not available online, so you will need to attend a centre for that element.

What you will need to bring

Elatt will confirm anything you need before you start. You will need access to a device and a stable internet connection for online Zoom classes.
