About this course

Free Entry Level 1 Functional Skills Maths course. Study online. You can work through the course at your own pace, which makes it easier to fit around other commitments. You'll cover numbers and number systems, shape, space and measure, and handling data, with a focus on applying maths to everyday situations like budgeting, shopping, and planning. The course runs over 16 weeks, with online study sessions plus independent study. Note: the final exam takes place in person at Elatt. You'll start with an initial assessment so the course can be matched to the right level for you.

Who this course is for

We teach functional maths skills for vocational learners at all Entry Levels, and Level 1 and 2. Courses are tied to the functional skills syllabus and address the key numerical skills needed for daily life including: Numbers and number systems, Shape, space and measure and Handling data.

Courses are delivered online, however at the end of the programme, learners are required to attend a face-to-face exam at ELATT.

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • You'll use simple fractions, decimals, and percentages in everyday contexts.
  • You'll apply common measures such as time, money, weight, and distance.
  • You'll identify and describe basic shapes and spaces.
  • You'll collect and present simple data using charts and tables.
  • You'll solve practical problems like budgeting, shopping, and planning journeys.

How you will learn

You'll study online, working through course material in sessions of around three hours, two days a week, plus independent study. At the end of the 16 weeks, you'll sit a formal exam in person at Elatt. Before you start, you'll complete an initial assessment so the course is planned around your current level.

Elatt will confirm anything you need before you start. You'll need access to a device and internet connection for online study.
