Free Functional Skills English Level 1 Course in Newark. Classes run at Inspire Culture Newark Buttermarket on Wednesday mornings, part-time over 22 weeks.

You'll work on reading, writing, and speaking and listening. An initial assessment at the start helps place you at the right level, from Entry Level 3 up to Level 2. The course is a recognised GCSE English alternative for adults who need to improve their English for work or everyday life.

You'll finish with a City and Guilds Functional Skills Qualification in English.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop your reading skills, including understanding texts and identifying key information.
  • You'll improve your writing, including spelling, punctuation, grammar, and structuring sentences and paragraphs.
  • You'll build your speaking and listening skills, including taking part in discussions and following spoken instructions.
  • You'll learn to communicate clearly in everyday and work-related situations.
  • You'll practise using English for practical tasks such as completing forms and writing messages.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a small group of 5 to 15 students in a classroom at Inspire Culture Newark Buttermarket. Sessions run on Wednesday mornings from 9:30am to 12:30pm. All resources are provided by your tutor. Near the end of the course, you'll be assessed on reading, writing, and speaking and listening. You need to pass all three elements to achieve the qualification.
