Free Functional Skills Maths Level 1 Course in Newark. Classes run at Inspire Culture Newark Buttermarket, part-time on Monday mornings over 22 weeks.

The course covers everyday numbers, shapes and measuring, and data and probability. You'll work with percentages, fractions, areas, averages, and charts, all in practical, real-life contexts. It's a recognised GCSE maths alternative for adults who don't yet hold a maths qualification at that level. You'll also build exam technique to help you succeed in your City and Guilds assessment.

You'll finish with a Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Level 1.

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, decimals, percentages, fractions, and ratios in everyday contexts.
  • You'll calculate lengths, weights, areas, and volumes using standard units.
  • You'll read and interpret basic plans, map scales, and coordinates.
  • You'll calculate averages and understand basic probability.
  • You'll read, draw, and interpret charts and graphs.
  • You'll develop exam technique to prepare for your City and Guilds assessment.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a small group of 5 to 15 students in a classroom setting. Sessions run on Monday mornings from 9:30am to 12:30pm. You'll complete homework between sessions. Assessment is by a City and Guilds exam. You'll have an initial online assessment before the course starts so the right level of textbook can be provided.

What you will need to bring

Bring your own calculator, pen, and notepad to each session. A textbook will be provided after you complete your initial online assessment. Inspire Culture Newark Buttermarket will confirm anything else you need before you start.
