About this course

Free Functional Skills Maths Level 1 Course in Nottingham. Classes run at Adult Education at Arnold Library. It is for adults aged 19 or over.

The course covers everyday maths in three areas. You will work with numbers, percentages, fractions, and decimals. You will also look at shapes, measurements, and reading simple plans. And you will learn to read charts, work out averages, and understand basic probability. This Level 1 functional skills maths qualification is a recognised GCSE maths alternative for adults.

You will finish with a City and Guilds Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Level 1.

  • You'll read and draw charts and graphs.
  • You'll calculate averages and understand basic probability.
  • You'll practise exam techniques to help you pass your assessment.

How you will learn

You will learn in a classroom at Arnold Library, in a small group of 5 to 15 students. Sessions run on Wednesday evenings. A textbook matched to your level is provided after your initial online assessment. You will be expected to attend each week and complete homework. Assessment is by a City and Guilds exam.

What you will need to bring

Bring your own calculator, pen, and notepad to each session. A textbook will be provided to you after you complete your initial online assessment.
