Who this course is for

This course is for people who want to improve their English skills gain a qualification in English without having to take an exam.You must not have a current Entry 3 level or higher qualification.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment

  • You'll read and understand everyday texts, including letters, forms, and notices.
  • You'll write clearly for everyday purposes such as messages, notes, and short documents.
  • You'll spell common words and use basic punctuation correctly.
  • You'll listen and respond in straightforward conversations and discussions.
  • You'll speak clearly enough to be understood in familiar situations.
  • You'll identify the main points in spoken and written information.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom based and run in the evening. Learning is assessed through portfolio evidence and practical tasks rather than a formal exam. You'll complete activities during sessions that demonstrate your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Your tutor will track your progress throughout the course.
