About this course

Free Entry Level 2 Functional Skills English in Northallerton. Classes run at Skipton Adult Learning & Skills Service, part-time during the day, so you can fit study around other commitments. Over 18 weeks, you'll build your reading, writing, and speaking skills at Entry Level 2. This is a free functional skills english course for adults who don't yet hold an Entry Level 2 English qualification or higher. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm this is the right level for you.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand everyday texts such as letters, signs, and short articles.
  • You'll write simple sentences using basic punctuation and spelling.
  • You'll complete short writing tasks for everyday purposes, such as filling in forms or writing a message.
  • You'll listen and respond to straightforward spoken information.
  • You'll speak clearly to share information and answer questions.
  • You'll identify the main points in a short piece of text.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Skipton Adult Learning & Skills Service, working through reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities. Assessment is through tasks and a formal test set by City and Guilds. Your tutor will track your progress throughout the course and prepare you for the final assessment.
