About this course

Free Entry Level 1 Functional Skills Maths in Selby. Classes run at Selby Adult Learning and Skills Service during the day, part-time, making it manageable alongside other commitments. Over 18 weeks, you'll build core number skills including counting, simple calculations, and handling everyday maths. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm Entry Level 1 Functional Skills Maths is the right starting point for you. The course is open to adults who don't yet hold an Entry Level 1 maths qualification or higher.

This course is for people who want to improve their Maths skills and who currently, do not hold a current Entry Level 1 or higher qualification

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll recognise and use whole numbers in everyday situations.
  • You'll add and subtract simple numbers with confidence.
  • You'll understand basic number sequences and patterns.
  • You'll read and interpret simple charts, tables, and data.
  • You'll use maths to handle money, time, and measurements in daily life.
  • You'll follow straightforward mathematical instructions and solve simple problems.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions at Selby Adult Learning and Skills Service. Teaching is delivered face to face, with tutor support throughout. Assessment is through a formal test set by City and Guilds. You'll need to pass this test to earn your certificate. Your tutor will help you prepare for it during the course.
