About this course

Level 4 IQA Course in Chippenham. Classes run at Wiltshire College & University Centre Chippenham Campus, daytime with flexible study over 12 months. This City and Guilds IQA qualification is for people who are already skilled or qualified in a work-related area and want to move into quality assurance roles in assessment and training. You'll learn how to monitor and support assessors, maintain quality standards, and manage assessment processes. The course typically takes 12 months to complete.

Who this course is for

This is an introductory course for people who are skilled and qualified in a work related area and want to learn to teach or train others. Known as a 'Gateway' course, it won't equip you to be a fully qualified teacher or trainer, but it is the first step to accessing higher level courses that will do so.

Entry requirements

You need to be 19 years or over. You should have achieved or be aiming to achieve a qualification at NVQ level 3 and/or have experience in the subject/skill you wish to teach.

What you will learn

  • You'll understand the principles and practices of internal quality assurance in assessment.
  • You'll learn how to plan and carry out monitoring activities with assessors.
  • You'll develop skills in giving feedback to assessors to improve their practice.
  • You'll learn how to maintain accurate records of quality assurance activity.
  • You'll understand how to manage risks to the quality of assessment.
  • You'll learn how to lead and support a team of assessors effectively.

How you will learn

You'll attend daytime classes at the Chippenham campus with flexible scheduling across the 12 months. Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence drawn from your practice as an internal quality assurer. You'll gather records of monitoring activities, feedback given to assessors, and reflective accounts of your work. The centre will guide you on building your portfolio throughout the course.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Wiltshire College & University Centre Chippenham Campus will confirm anything else you need before you start. You will need access to a workplace where you can observe and support assessors, as the portfolio evidence must come from real practice.
