About this course

BTEC National Diploma in Sport in Enfield. Classes run at Barnet and Southgate College Southgate Campus, full-time during the day over 36 weeks.

An Advanced Learner Loan is available for learners aged 19 or over. Fees may apply depending on your circumstances. The course covers sports performance, fitness, anatomy, physiology, coaching, and sports leadership. You'll study units across performance analysis, exercise science, and practical sport.

This Level 3 sport qualification can lead to university study or roles in sports and fitness. You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Diploma in Sport.

Who this course is for

If you are over 16 years old and have an interest in sports performance, sports leadership or fitness, the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport may be for you. This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for successful employment in the sport and recreation industries but it also prepares you for a higher national or undergraduate degree programme in Physical Education, Sports Science, Sports development or Sports coaching. On completion of the two-year programme the Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels.

Entry requirements

You are required to have 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C), including English, Maths and preferably P.E. Applicants with a BTEC L2 Certificate in Sport require a Merit grade, with English and maths GCSEs at a minimum grade 4. You must have an interest and choose from one of the following academies on your application: Athletics; Basketball; Football; Tennis; Boxing or Leadership. It would be ideal that you have previous experience playing competitive sport however, not necessary.

You'll learn through classroom sessions, practical sport sessions, and coursework assignments. Assessment is mainly through internally assessed assignments marked against Pearson Edexcel criteria. Some units include external assessments set and marked by Pearson. You'll build a portfolio of work across the two years of the course.
