About this course

BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Sport in Enfield. Classes run at Barnet and Southgate College Southgate Campus, full-time during the day. An Advanced Learner Loan may be available if you're 19 or over. Fees may apply depending on your circumstances.

This Level 3 BTEC sport course covers sports performance, fitness, coaching, and leadership. You'll study anatomy, physiology, sports psychology, and nutrition. The course also develops your practical coaching and training skills. It runs over 36 weeks. You'll need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Sport.

Who this course is for

If you are over 16 years old and have an interest in sports performance, sports leadership or fitness, the BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Sport at Barnet and Southgate College may be for you. This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for successful employment in the sport and recreation industries but it also prepares you for a higher national or undergraduate degree programme in Physical Education, Sports Science, Sports development or Sports coaching. On completion of this ONE YEAR programme the Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to 1.5 A levels.

Entry requirements

Required to have 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C), including English, Maths and preferably P.E. Applicants with a BTEC L2 Certificate in Sport require a Merit grade, with English and maths GCSEs at a minimum grade 4. You must have an interest and choose from one of the following academies on your application: Athletics; Basketball; Football; Tennis; Boxing or Leadership. It would be ideal that you have previous experience playing competitive sport however, not necessary.

You'll learn through classroom sessions, practical activities, and coursework assignments. Assessment is mainly through Pearson-set assignments and unit tasks. Some units include externally assessed exams. You'll build a portfolio of work across the course. Practical sessions take place alongside theory lessons.
