About this course

BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport in Enfield. Classes run at Barnet and Southgate College Southgate Campus, full-time during the day. An Advanced Learner Loan may be available if you're 19 or over. Fees may apply depending on your circumstances.

This Level 3 BTEC sport course covers sports performance, coaching principles, fitness training, anatomy and physiology, and sports leadership. You'll study over 36 weeks and develop practical skills alongside the theory. The course suits those aiming for a career in sport or fitness, or planning to go on to university.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport.

Who this course is for

If you are over 16 years old and have an interest in sports performance, sports leadership or fitness, BTEC Level 3 may be for you. This two-year course will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to progress onto Higher Education or for a potential career in sports and recreation industries.

Entry requirements

Required to have 4 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C), including English and/or Maths and preferably P.E. Applicants with a BTEC L2 Certificate in Sport require a Pass grade, with English and maths GCSEs at a minimum grade 3. You must have an interest and choose from one of the following academies on your application: Athletics; Basketball; Football; Tennis; Boxing or Leadership. It would be ideal that you have previous experience playing competitive sport however, not necessary.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions, practical activities, and coursework assignments. Assessment is mainly through unit assignments rather than exams, so you build evidence of your skills throughout the course. Some units may include practical assessments linked to your chosen sport or academy pathway.
