About this course

Level 3 Barbering Course. Work-based training at your workplace. A fee applies for this course, though an Advanced Learning Loan may be available depending on your circumstances. You must already hold a Level 2 Barbering qualification and be working in a barbers for at least two days a week in a supervisory role. Over 12 months, you'll develop advanced barbering skills on the job, building on your existing practice to reach the highest professional level. This level 3 barbering qualification is based on National Occupational Standards and assessed in your workplace.

Who this course is for

The level 3 (NVQ) Diploma in Barbering is based on the National Occupational Standards for Barbering.

It is a job ready qualification which requires learners to demonstrate in the workplace the skills and knowledge required for advanced barbering within the Hair industry. This is an advanced qualification and supports your barbering practices at the highest levels.

Entry requirements

You must already be qualified at Level 2 Barbering and be employed or have a work placement cutting men’s hair in a barbers for two days a week. You must also be in a supervisory role.

  • You'll demonstrate advanced cutting and styling techniques for men's hair.
  • You'll develop your skills in beard and facial hair design and shaping.
  • You'll apply knowledge of hair and scalp conditions relevant to barbering services.
  • You'll practise client consultation and service planning at an advanced level.
  • You'll carry out your work in line with health, safety, and salon hygiene standards.
  • You'll take on supervisory responsibilities within a barbering environment.

How you will learn

Assessment is workplace-based. You'll be observed carrying out barbering services in your place of work, and your assessor will visit to assess your practical skills directly. You'll also build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your knowledge and competence. Assessment is mapped to the National Occupational Standards for Barbering.
