About this course

Level 3 Assessor Course. Study online, at your own pace, fitting learning around your other commitments. The course runs over 6 months and covers the principles and practices of assessment, giving you the skills to assess learners in the workplace, in a classroom, or in other training environments. You need to be 18 or over and should hold or be working toward a qualification at NVQ Level 3, or have relevant experience in the subject you want to assess.

Who this course is for

This is an introductory course for people who are skilled and qualified in a work related area and want to learn to teach or train others. Known as a 'Gateway' course, it won't equip you to be a fully qualified teacher or trainer, but it is the first step to accessing higher level courses that will do so.

Entry requirements

You need to be 18 years or over. You should have achieved or be aiming to achieve a qualification at NVQ level 3 and/or have experience in the subject/skill you wish to teach.

What you will learn

  • You'll understand the principles and practices of assessment in vocational contexts.
  • You'll learn how to plan and carry out assessments in workplace settings.
  • You'll develop the skills to assess knowledge and understanding in classroom, online, and other training environments.
  • You'll learn how to make and record assessment decisions fairly and consistently.
  • You'll understand how to give constructive feedback to learners after assessment.
  • You'll learn how to assess a range of qualification types, including awards, diplomas, and apprenticeships.

How you will learn

You study online and work through the course material at your own pace. Assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence that you build up during the course, demonstrating your competence as an assessor. You will also be observed carrying out assessments in a real work or learning environment as part of the qualification requirements. Harriet Ellis will guide you through what evidence you need to collect.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Harriet Ellis will confirm anything else you need before you start.
