Level 2 Dog Grooming Assistant Course in Ilkeston. Classes run at Derby College Broomfield Hall Campus on Tuesdays, 9:30am to 4pm. The course runs for 16 weeks and covers the practical skills you need to work under supervision in a grooming salon. You'll train in a working commercial salon on campus, which gives you hands-on experience from the start. There is some theory alongside the practical work. Entry requires Maths and English at grade D/3 or above, a remote interview, and a £220 kit fee on successful interview.

This course is ideal for learners who are wanting to begin a journey into the dog grooming industry. It will build the skills and knowledge to be able to work under supervision in a dog grooming salon. The course is run within a commercial salon at the college. Allowing a more realistic insight into a dog grooming career.It is a practical course, however, there is some theory throughout the course also.

What you will learn
You'll prepare dogs for bathing, including brushing and detangling coats.
You'll bathe and dry dogs ready for styling.
You'll learn the basics of clipping and scissoring.
You'll maintain and care for a range of salon equipment.
You'll keep the grooming salon clean and meet professional standards.
You'll apply basic canine first aid.
You'll handle and manage dogs of different breeds, sizes, and behaviours.
How you will learn
You'll learn through practical sessions in the college's on-site commercial grooming salon, supported by classroom-based theory. Learning is hands-on throughout, with theory woven in to build your underpinning knowledge. An interview is required before you start, and a practical interview may be requested if the initial remote interview does not fully confirm your suitability.
